Seventh International Carbon Dioxide Conference
Broomfield, Colorado
September 26-30, 2005

The content below is a preliminary announcement of conference made by ICDC7.The conference website can be found at: www.cmdl.noaa.gov/info/icdc7

Source: ICDC7

Overview:

The implications of the observed increase in concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide for global climate change, and the inherently international scope of the associated scientific and public policy issues, have led to a series of international meetings to gain a better understanding of the global carbon cycle.  Since 1981, the international community of carbon dioxide research scientists has held a Carbon Dioxide Conference every four years.  The first meeting took place in Bern, Switzerland, called the "Bern Carbon Dioxide Symposium", and focused primarily on atmospheric measurements of carbon dioxide and  related species. In subsequent meetings attention was increasingly devoted to obtaining a better understanding of the global carbon cycle, reflected in the broader, much expanded scientific programs of these later conferences.

 Objective:

The purpose of this conference is to bring together scientists from different disciplines to communicate the most recent results pertinent to the global carbon cycle, with an emphasis on the contemporary increase of atmospheric carbon dioxide.  Topics will include atmospheric and oceanic measurements and monitoring networks, terrestrial ecosystems and land use change, carbon cycle process models, source/sink inverse models, the ice core record, new observational techniques, long-term potentials and vulnerabilities of carbon sequestration, and more generally, the human impact on the carbon cycle.

 Dates and Location:

The conference will be held at the Omni Interlocken Resort in Broomfield, Colorado, September 26-30, 2005.  A reception will be held Sunday evening, September 25.  The Omni is located near Boulder, Colorado, and is approximately forty-five minutes by shuttle from the Denver International Airport.

 Information:

The conference website can be found at:
www.cmdl.noaa.gov/info/icdc7 This site is under development and will be updated regularly as new information is available.  A brief history of the previous six carbon dioxide conferences is currently available on the website. A First Announcement and Call For Papers will be distributed and posted on the website in the near future, including a conference timeline as well as information on registration and accommodations.

 Expression of Interest:

If you are interested in receiving future announcements as they become available, please send the information below to the Conference Secretary by email, fax, or post (The address/fax/email information for the Conference Secretary is listed below).  If you are aware of others who might be interested in the Conference, but who might not have received this preliminary announcement, we ask that you please forward this announcement to them.
